The Women Behind the Water: A Legacy Carried Forward

At WaterFleet, every mobile water treatment system carries more than just a number, it carries a name. What started as a way to recognize the women who have shaped our company has grown into a tradition that connects our work to something deeply personal: legacy.

WaterFleet mobile water treatment system named “Leslie Ann” as part of the Women Behind the Water naming tradition.

WaterFleet system Leslie Ann, named in honor of an employee’s mother, carries forward the Women Behind the Water tradition.

Seeing the Tradition for the First Time

When Madison Hemenway, our Operations Logistics Manager, joined WaterFleet, the very first system she saw unveiled carried a name, not just a rig number.

“I remember the week I started at WaterFleet, Water Rig 100 was being unveiled with its name. That was the first I had heard about employees being able to name a Water Rig. As the months continued, I watched the systems being named and eagerly awaited my turn to name one.”

Choosing a Name That Lasts

In early 2019, she got her chance.

“I’ll never forget the moment WaterFleet approached me to name the next unit. I was thrilled. After watching so many have the opportunity to name one (or even two), it felt incredibly special to finally get my turn. Without hesitation, I submitted my mother’s name.”

For her, the choice was clear.

“I chose my mother because I have always looked up to her. She is one of the strongest and most supportive, caring, genuine women I know. Throughout my life she has been a constant reminder to stand for what is right and that with hard work and determination, you could achieve anything you put your mind to.”

Her mother’s reaction made the moment even more special.

“She was so excited and began to tear up! She knew that we named our water systems and that I talked about it a lot, but she never expected for me to pick her.”

More Than a Job

For Madison, the naming tradition represents more than a symbolic gesture, it ties her personal story to WaterFleet’s mission.

“I’ve always wanted my work to mean more than just a job. Having the chance to name a water system—one that provides clean, safe drinking water even in the most challenging conditions—was more than perfect. My mother’s name leaves a lasting impression of her strength and caring nature as it lives on.”

Looking Ahead

“I can’t wait for us to start making new water systems so the naming tradition can continue on! Over the years, I’ve enjoyed hearing the stories behind other names. Even though our process is the same and all units should run the same, each has a few quirks—and I think the personalities of some of these ladies start to shine through. We like to keep everything nautical here, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Carrying the Legacy Forward

Stories like hers remind us that every system we deploy represents not only the technology inside, but also the people and values behind it. The Women Behind the Water series will continue sharing these stories in the months ahead, highlighting the names of the women who define who we are.
